Collection Pulaski - 1910 Fire Exhibit
Description Velocipedes or "speeders" were used by fire spotters along railways; trains were a major cause of fires. Forest rangers used speeders to rapidly travel the vast areas they were responsible for in District 1 using the existing rail routes.

Image 1: A speeder used in the Coeur d' Alene Mining District for travel on our underground railroads. The speeders were used in the area mines into the 1980's. It is representative of the speeders used by the Forest Service above the ground. WDMM Collection.

Image 2: Will Morris, Assistant Forest Ranger, from the Wallace District office of the Coeur d' Alene National Forest. Will Morris used a speeder to patrol / travel on the North Fork of the Coeur d' Alene River in 1910. For more on Will Morris go see the 1910 Fire exhibit at the Staff House Museum in Kellogg.
