Description
Not only were millions of trees burned, several towns burned as well. The eastern third of Wallace was consumed in the conflagration and two people died. The towns of Grand Forks and Falcon on Loop Creek in the St. Joe drainage were wiped off the face of the earth. In Montana the railroad towns of Taft and De Borgia burned to the ground. Some rebuilt, others are no more. Image 1: The eastern 1/3 of Wallace burned; two people died. WDMM Collection. Image 2: Taft, Montana before the fire; never rebuilt. WDMM Collection.
