| Bottle, Condiment - This clear glass bottle may have held milk or pickles based on the capseat or "common sense" style of closure and general shape. The cap was made of an outer cardboard layer over an inner wax seal that fit into the "capseat" in the mouth of the bottle. This style of finish was invented in 1889, but did not really become widely used until the invention of the automatic bottle machine in 1910. While capseat bottles typically held milk, the shape of this bottle is a little different than most milk bottles, indicating that it may have held pickles, another food that was commonly sealed in this manner. |
