Description
Can - Probably contained condensed or evaporated milk, which was often used in cooking and as a stand-in for fresh milk. The milk was placed into the can and the top applied. It was then heated up to kill any bacteria and a drop of solder sealed the small vent hole in the middle of the cap. The "match-stick-filler-hole" style of can was common in historic sites from the 1890s up through the 1940s.
