Description
Tom Nicholson, owner of the Wallace Cigar Company, who lived on King Street, loaded all his belongings into a wagon and took them to his cigar factory at 706 Cedar Street by the river for safe keeping. Many other King Street residents also moved their valuables to what they believed were safer locations like the Union Pacific depot at the east end of town. It was believed the fire would attack Wallace coming down Placer Creek via King Street. Image 1: Location of the Wallace Cigar Company on Cedar Street. Image 2: Cigar box from the Wallace Cigar Company. Located in display case 111 in the museum.
