Abstract Walter Hanson was a young energetic lawyer and mayor of Wallace at the time of the 1910 Fire. Forest Supervisor Weigle, who's office was at 604 Bank Street, was expected to coordinate the fire fighting for Wallace. However, he was fighting for his personal survival up Placer Creek and would miss the burning of Wallace. This left the battle for Wallace to Walter Hanson to lead. As the fire approached Wallace, Mayor Hanson coordinated the evacuation of the town, the enforcement of public safety, and the fire fighting effort. Most of Wallace was saved with few casualties.
