Description
Fire Chief Kelly determined that the large brick structures on Seventh Street would make the best line of defense to protect the western portions of Wallace from the conflagration raging in the eastern portion of the city. Chief Kelly deployed his men along Seventh Street with hoses. Men in the Samuels Hotel and the County Court House used hoses and buckets of water to attempt to put out fires starting on the wooden window frames of the buildings. At the Court House they resorted to tearing out the window frames to save the building.
